Ochratoxin and Citrinin – (Aspergillus & Penicillium Poisoning)

The fungi are found in oats, barley, wheat and maize.

Symptoms

Sows

  • Liver / kidney damage.
  • Jaundice.
  • Reduced performance.

Piglets

  • Unlikely to be any symptoms.

Weaners & Growers

  • Reduced growth.
  • Kidney damage.

Causes / Contributing factors

  • Poor wet harvests allow the fungi to grow.
  • Poor storage conditions.

Diagnosis

Clinical and post mortem signs. Toxins identified in feed.
