Dactylariosis

Introduction

A rare fungal disease of chickens and turkeys caused by Dactylaria gallopava.

Signs

  • Incoordination.
  • Tremors.
  • Torticollis.
  • Circling, recumbency.

Post-mortem lesions

  • Necrotic lesions with associated congestion in cerebrum.
  • Mycotic lesions in lungs, air sacs etc.

Diagnosis

Lesions, isolation of the fungus.

Treatment

None.

Prevention

Use fresh dry litter (avoid old sawdust).
