Lymphoproliferative Disease (LPD)

Introduction

A Type C retrovirus infection of turkeys with low morbidity and high mortality.

Signs

  • Depression.
  • Emaciation.
  • Loss of weight.
  • Persistent low mortality.
  • Enlargement of abdomen, liver or bursa.
  • May be asymptomatic.

Post-mortem lesions

  • Focal tumours, especially in enlarged spleen.

Diagnosis

History, age, lesions, cytology. Differentiate from Reticuloendotheliosis.

Treatment

None.

Prevention

Good hygiene, all-in/all-out production, control arthropods, in future eradication.
