Scrotal hernia

A scrotal hernia is when the ram’s intestines slip through the inguinal rings into the scrotum. The condition causes an enlargement of the scrotum. Scrotal hernias may be congenital or acquired. They are thought to be caused by trauma. It is not known if genetics plays a role. While it may be possible to surgically repair a scrotal hernia, a more practical option would be harvest them for meat. Obviously, rams with scrotal hernias should not be used for breeding.
